Third single off Joseph’s forthcoming LP, While You Were Slumbering

In Joseph Decosimo's "The Fox Chase," fiddle textures, pump organ, and harmonics weave around Joseph’s unaffected voice to recast the story of a fox chase and a beloved dog wandering into the cosmos. Joseph drew the piece from a field recording of Tennessee ballad singer Dee Hicks, who sang over 200 ballads without the aid of the written word.

“I added my dear Charlie into the pack,” Joseph explains of a change he made to the old song. “But it’s unlikely that his stubby corgi nubbins could have kept up with those foxhounds. We had to say goodbye to Charlie in August 2022. It’s changed how I hear this one.”
