Today, we’re thrilled to release Skylar Gudasz and Libby Rodenbough’s gorgeous interpretation of an old beauty. Built on rich fiddle drones and full-throated harmonies, it’s a piece made for chilly days of misty-eyed love and longing. These two are truly remarkable songwriters and instrumentalists. We had the total pleasure of releasing Libby’s first solo record, Spectacle of Love, a few months ago and it still hits so heavy. Skylar is a rare and genuine talent whose voice can be delicately restrained while still soaring above a band. We’re thrilled to release this tune with them.

On a different note, when Skylar and Libby mentioned that they’d recorded a version of “Wild Mountain Thyme” I thought “No way, they listen to The Real McKenzies??” A few days later I realized that the loud and grizzled band I adored as a 14-year-old skate punk didn’t actually write the tune. Duh. It was originally a poem/song written in the late 1700s by Robert Tannahill called “The Braes of Balquhither” and was later adapted by Francis McPeake, who called it “Wild Mountain Thyme.”

All proceeds from digital downloads of the tune will be donated to the Earthseed Land Collective. Enjoy and thanks for listening!
